A link local address has a prefix of FE80, is not routable, and can be used for communication only on the local network, the loopback is the most common example:

O endereço acima diz que os primeiros 6 bytes (48 bits) são o prefixo de todos os IPs dessa subnet, portanto 80 bits ou 10 bytes restantes poderão ser usados para definir o IP que quiser. Quanto maior o prefixo menor a chance de colisão porém menos IPs poderão ser usados naquela subnet.
